Why an outdoor photoshoot is a great choice for your family

…especially with younger children.

Being outdoors gives your little one the freedom to have a run around, be silly and generally just have fun

There’s no better way to get genuine smiles and real emotion into your photos than if everyone is having fun with it.

A beautiful young family with two small children sits on a log during an outdoor family photoshoot in Derby
four young brothers and sisters sit on a brick wall with their arms around each other

Here’s some of my top reasons for having an outdoor family photoshoot!

1 - Everyone’s just a little more relaxed, there’s no restricting studio…just the beautiful outdoors and fresh air.

2 - Your little one can just be themselves and explore (some of the best photos come from these instances).

3 - We move around a lot which gives beautiful variety to your photos. This also means that if your little one is getting fussy we can have a little walk and then try something else.

4 - The seasons are always changing and two shoots are never the same.

If you have a particular vision in mind then we can plan your shoot for that time of year. I keep an eye on the weather so we can rearrange dates if it starts looking a bit wet!

Now what happens if your little one is just not feeling it? (trust me it happens!)

Another great thing about being outdoors is while we can keep them moving, run and chase…there are also a lot of distractions and wildlife which will soon take their minds off whatever it was that stressed them out.

Take a look at the below images, can you guess which kids were definitely not in the mood for their photos being taken? (If you guessed all you’d be absolutely RIGHT!)

At some point during their session they were not all feeling it but through playing with them and having fun they soon got used to me (well except the bluebell image because he’s very used to Mummy already!).

Parents! This is important stuff!…

The most important things to remember from your side being parents is not to get stressed that it’s not playing out the way you wanted. Just SMILE and keep on SMILING because I’m taking loads of photos in one go and I guarantee I will get one in between a scowl.

By staying calm you will also help them to calm down, resulting in a beautiful selection of photographs that you will cherish for a lifetime and you can have a little giggle about how difficult you thought they were being.

I just want to share a sneaky peek from a session a few weeks ago in Derby, little Harrison was not feeling it in the slightest but you’d never know.

So remember, all you have to do is keep smiling!
