Photography Tips: A Sneak Peek at How to Take the Sweetest Photos of Your Kids

Welcome friends! I’m Emma. A Family, Newborn and Maternity lifestyle photographer covering Derbyshire, Nottingham and beyond.

In this blog will give you a few of my top photography tips on how to take the sweetest photos of your kids and I hope by the end of it you'll feel a lot more confident about taking great photos of your little (or big) ones.

Now, don't get me wrong. Nothing beats a beautiful professional photoshoot to capture your family’s memories but these amazing memories and moments are happening all the time and most of the time you only have your phone, so it's my duty to use my expertise and help you with this!

Enjoy! And just remember, have fun with it!

1 - Capture natural moments.

Just take a moment to just watch your children...what they play with, the songs they sing while they’re playing (as soon as I hear 'London bridge is falling down' I know we're in trouble!) and what they really enjoy doing.

They’ll soon realise what you’re doing and jump on you (see middle photo, I turned into a trampoline). Capture and document everything! Natural moments really are the best and show their little personalities. We all know they grow up so quickly, sometimes overnight!

2 - Get down to their level.

Rather than taking photos from above, make sure your phone lens is at their eye level.

It’s a lovely perspective to take photos from and shows how big their world is to them.

3 - How to get a beautiful smile?

Most of the time when you ask a child to smile the automatic response is a forced grin or at best a 'cheeeessse'.

For really natural smiles get your child to say ‘I love you’ or ‘sunshine’ rather than ‘cheese’ it makes for a beautiful reaction and some silly ones. Just remember to act quick and take multiple photos, even if they move you're bound to get something lovely.

So how was that? There’s so much more to tell you about lighting and how to keep them engaged so if you’d like to read more about this then fill out your details below and I’ll send you my full
